How Big is Big?

We are obviously not in the blogging routine yet, but I wanted to share a little Science experiment we did last week.  We began our chapter on mammals and in order to get an accurate visual of the enormity of God's creation we did a little measuring.

Matthew, our most excellent and prepared student, brought in his 25 ft. tape measure and we began.  We measured our classroom and then headed out to the playground where we measured the fireman's pole, slides, swingset, edging, trees, and anything else that might be the right height.  After getting some measurements, we compared our equipment to various mammals.

It was a fun science lesson!

By the way, extra credit for Matthew because he was the only one prepared for the day!  Even my tape measure remained at home.

We read about Card Catalogs. After Reading we went to Music. We had a subsitute, Mrs.Graham. We learned how to play Gently Sleep on our recorder. Smooth Sailing

We could not have asked for a better first day of 5th grade!  Everything went smoothly from learning our class rules to introducing policies and procedures to our very first game of SPARKLE!!  We are ending our day with a little study hall time, but since everyone completed their work today we are having fun.  A couple are playing Candy Land and others are playing chess.

I truly am excited about this year and all that it holds for us!  Especially the cooler temperatures...recess was a scorcher!  :)

Back to School Night

WOW!!  Can you believe it?!  Back to School Night is here!

Summer has been absolutely perfect this year for my family and me.  I have been reading, going to movies, swimming, reading, hanging out with friends, going to the lake, canoeing, reading, sleeping in, reading...you get the picture!  :)  It is sad to see the lazy days come to an end and yet there is an excitement building up inside of me as I contemplate all that God wants to do with me and through me this school year.

I have the room ready...all it's missing are the students!!

Shining like a star!

A Wet Day

Today every one got wet! We had a spontaneous day because today was Field Day. We had water balloons, sponges that were soaked and lots more! Every one I saw had a SMILE on their face at least one time or another so I know they were all happy.

In Bible we recited two verses in Psalms. Our memory verse was Psalms 121 1-2 but we were allowed to say up to verse eight. We also finished reading our entire health book! Yay! :) Sadly today was our last Friday also. Elementary school is almost over for us.

Hope every one had a great day!

National Day of Prayer

Yesterday was our National Day of Prayer and at our school we have a prayer service and a recognition of our community leaders and elected officials whom we have prayed for throughout the year in our Adopt-a-Leader program.

The fifth graders recited the American's Creed and Jackson presented his original speech entitled, "Freedom or Chains."  It was a great morning as we were challenged to seek Christ and His purpose for having us in this place for such a time as this.

We were excited that Mr and Mrs Sims could join us!  We have been praying for them everyday this school year.  We prayed that God would grant Mr. Sims wisdom as he serves on the Longview City Council.  For Mrs. Sims, we prayed that God would heal her cancer.  It was an encouragement to hear her report of good health.
