Another Great Day

This week has started off pretty well.  Our first class Spanish, we did something spontaneous. We went to the kitchen and made tortillas! We put butter on them and they were delicious! For Math we took a math test again. Nothing that exciting, but still important. In Language we wrote a paragraph on our favorite place. In Reading we read about Eli Whitney (who knows what he did besides any of our fifth graders?) and did a worktext page in our books. For Spelling, as usuall we did "Say it in a Sentence."

After lunch and recess we still had Health, History, and P.E. to do. We read our Health pages and did the quick check together. History we did funiewing(fun reviewing)!!!!! Since it was closet to Melayna's birthday she got to pick what game we played. She chose basketball. In this game we set a box ontop of a desk with little pieces of paper wadded up into little balls beside the box. There are two lines with an equal amount of people on each team. Our teacher will ask two people a question and whoever answers correctly first gets a point. They get another point if they get the ball of paper in the box. In P.E. we played another great game of dodgeball. Hope you enjoyed a day in the fifth grade!

P.S. I would also like to congratulate Kayten for saying all 44 of the U. S. Presidents today. Great job! :)

Sparkle!

Today wasn't our most eventful day in this school year yet we still had fun!
First we started our day with pledges, devotions, and Bible. No one was able to recite their verse today (Hebrews 12:1-2), but I would like to congratulate Kayten who already did.

Our next subject, Math, we only did practice. Language was pretty fun, we did a dictionary drill! A dictionary drill is where everyone in class writes down on a little piece of paper a random word, our teacher will pick them up and she calls them out and we find them. In Reading we read and did a worksheet. After Reading we did Spelling and for spelling we did "Sparkle!!!!!" Kayten won once and I won twice! Once we had lunch and recess we had funiewing (fun reviewing) in Health. For our funiewing today we played around the world. Lauren got first place and Jackson got second. Congratulations to you both! Our last subject was History. We read and did some of our chapter check-up to review for our test Monday.

p.s. Parents, our science fair projects are due next Thursday so don't let your kids put it off any longer!

Spring Relay Practice and "Funiewing"

Today, in PE we practiced for spring relays. We worked on the long distance run. The long distance run is running all the way around the soccer field one time. Whew!

After PE, we reviewed for our History test which will cover the last four chapters. In our class we call fun reviewing, "funiewing." We played a game where when someone answers the question correctly they draw points out of a bag. They write the points on the board, at the end we add up all the points and whoever has the most points, wins!  Today, the winning team got to pick candy out of the candy drawer!

We also did other things today, such as, learning from examples in the Bible of those who served God, worked on simplifying decimal numbers in Math, worked on our research paper in Language, read about biographies in Reading, and lizards in Science.  Our day was full and we had fun!

New 6 Weeks

Today began the 5th six weeks of the school year.  We all agreed that this year has been going by so quickly.  Each day we are continually amazed by how quickly lunch time arrives; it is as if the clock has grown feet and is running to the beach for summer without us.

We began our day with Spanish and impressed Mrs. Robinett so much that she believes we are ready to become a Spanish only class.  Well, at least for her class.  I am definitely not capable of teaching in Spanish.  Guess I will need to join the students in taking Spanish!  :)

In Bible we introduced our memory verse for the week.  II Corinthians 12:9-10  "For when I am weak then I am strong."  We talked about how diamonds shine more brilliantly against a dark backdrop than a light one.  The same is true with our faith.  God's glory shines brighter when He uses us mightily in an area in which we ourselves are weak.

In Math we continued work on two-digit division and continued reviewing all computation with fractions.  Language brought us editing work on our rough drafts.  Our one page paper on Helen Keller is due Wednesday.  It is simply a warm up for the big library research report due in April.  What a challenge that I know all the students are up for.  They will do amazing!

In Reading we read a poem and talked about personification.  I used personification in my post today.  Can you find it?  Comment your answer and I will randomly pick a winner.  The prize?  A Reese's!!  Can't beat it!

We read about birds in Science.  Did you know that birds have hollow bones with tiny ribs inside?  I am continually amazed at the creativity God displayed when He created us...in 7 days no less!  Okay...6!  :)

Great events in English History was still the subject in our History lesson today.  We read about the Great Exhibition of 1851, Beatrix Potter and Margaret Thatcher.  I believe America is in need of Margaret Thatcher today.  Pray that God will raise up a leader for our who displays a strong work ethic with the willingness to fearlessly declare that our goodness will only be based on the Word of God.

We ended our day in study hall and then PE.  It was a good day.

A Fun, Cold Day

Today was a fun day. First we did Bible and learned that the temple was destroyed and rebuilt. In Math we were on lesson 100 (very cool) and we learned about reducing fractions and multiplying decimal numbers. In Language we were talking about sentence outlines and topical outlines.  We also did a sentence outline about ourselves. It was fun! We read our reading assignment and then the people in speech meet had to go practice and make up their reading worktext pages. In Science we studied where you should go when there is a tornado and how a tornado forms. In History we started a new chapter and learned about Europe. Then we ended our day in P.E. practicing for the spring relays. I thank God for this lovely, cold day we have and are having now.

JUST ANOTHER DAY AT SCHOOL

Today we took two tests. One of them was in Bible (our memory verse test) and the other was in Spelling. We also had Computers, Library, and an ice cream party. We won the ice cream party because we won the door decorating contest during spirit week!  Here's a picture of our winning door.

After the ice cream party we still had a little time left until school was out, so everybody gathered together on the ground and rolled Nick's soccer ball around.  It was a fun way to end our day!

An Interesting Day

Today in Bible we learned about Mary Slessor.  In Math we did reducing fraction.  Language was usual; we did a lot of writing.  I wrote about soccer and how junk food affects your health.  We are writing paragraphs so we can learn how to write good paragraphs for reports and research projects.  In Reading we read the 54 verses of David and Goliath from I Samuel.  I like this story because it helps you believe in God when you are in a hard time.  Science was about weather and precipitation.  History was a test  over Europe's Christianity.  Today only one person was sick and we pray he is better and comes back soon!
